Dr. Alaa AlZailaa

Alaa AlZailaa is a researcher in AI-driven wireless communications, with extensive expertise in optimizing 5G and Beyond 5G (B5G) Radio Access Networks (RAN). He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering in April 2026 from the University of Aveiro, Portugal. His doctoral research established comprehensive analytical and empirical frameworks designed to evaluate the cost and operational efficiency of neural network models for next-generation RAN automation. This work integrates complex system modeling, multi-objective analysis, and rigorous real-world testbed validation. His academic background includes a Master’s in Computer and Telematics Engineering from the University of Aveiro and a Bachelor’s in Information Technology Engineering from Damascus University. Alaa’s diverse research portfolio encompasses AI-based resource management, federated learning for IoT, battery-aware device selection, and energy-efficient network design. He has contributed to major national and European projects, including the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan and the NGN-ET project. Alaa has published in prestigious venues like IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (IEEE TMC) and IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics (IEEE TCE). He also serves as a peer reviewer for high-impact Q1 journals, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. His technical proficiency spans Python, TensorFlow, NS-3, and OpenStack, complemented by early career experience in telecom engineering and Oracle database administration.
