24th Development Forum

The Industrial Systems Institute participates in the 24th Development Forum organized by weekly Symboulos Epicheiriseon in Patras, Greece. The Forum started on November 26, 2021 with a session on Innovation and Entrepreneurship participated physically or digitally by the Deputy Minister for Research and Innovation, Mr Christos Dimas, the President of the Federation of Enterprises and Industries of Peloponnese and Western Greece, Prof. Kleomenis Barlos, the President of the Regional Council of the Region of Western Greece, Mr Takis Papadopoulos, the General Secretary of the Chamber of Achaia, Mr Theodoros Tsoumbelis, the Deputy President of the Research Committee of the University of Patras, Prof. Dimitrios Mourtzis, the President of the Computer Technology Institute and Press Diophantus, Prof. Dimitrios Serpanos, the President of the Science Park of Patras, Prof. Vasilis Loukopoulos, the Director of the Industrial Systems Institute, Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios, and the Head of the Office of the Deputy Minister for Research and Innovation, Mr Michalis Dritsas.

Professor Chrysostomos Stylios referred to the evolutions associated with the 4th Industrial Revolution that penetrate everyday life. Artificial Intelligence, Machine Vision and Robotics are structural modules of the new reality that the Industrial Systems Institute contributes to, leading to digital transformation of the manufacturing industry and affecting all sectors of the economy.

The Industrial Systems Institute will organize two sessions in the context of the Forum relevant to “Modern evolutions and applications of Artificial Intelligence” on December 8, 2021 and to “the 4th Industrial Revolution and Circular Economy” on December 13, 2021.

During the first session different research results of the Institute involving Artificial Intelligence are presented comprising Precise Agriculture (MyOliveGroveCoach), Autonomous Driving (CPSoSAware, DeepEviot), Manufacturing and Robotics (CPSoSaware) and Cultural Heritage protection (Warmest).

During the second session an overview of technologies and applications of the 4th Industrial Revolution and Circular Economy are showcased. The Deputy Head of the Region of Western Greece for Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Spatial Planning Mr Lambros Dimitrogiannis referred to activities of the Region related to Circular Economy and Energy Communities. EPLO Circular Clima Institute approach for Circular Economy is presented by Ms Alexia Spyridonidou, while Open Innovation issues are presented by Ms Maria Xyga (CTI). Reference to research results of the Institute is made relating to Predictive Maintenance (PALMIS), Energy Efficient Buildings (Esmartcity), Digital Twins (I3T), Internet of Vehicles (nIoVe), and Circular Economy and Art (RRRemaker).

The Industrial Systems Institute also participates in the session entitled "Smart city applied solutions - Perspectives of the local ecosystem in Patras" organized by the Technical Chamber of Western Greece on December 14, 2021. Research results associated with Smart Cities and Smart Buildings have been presented. At the same session solutions provided by the local ecosystem of SMEs, academia and research institutions are shown.

Finally, the Industrial Systems Institute participates in the session entitled "Smart paths for development via innovation, (start-up) entrepreneurship, and liaison with research" organized by Patras Science Park on December 14, 2021. Emphasis is given on the Institute activities related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
