InnoXenia PLUS 2nd event on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Tourism

Tourism is a sector of economy severely hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. InnoXenia Plus targets the enhancement of strategies that have been produced in the context of former InnoXenia project, so that the recovery of the sector becomes faster and tourism turns more innovative and resilient to crises. InnoXenia plus also targets the promotion of InnoXenia project results through the organization of targeted promotion and dissemination activities towards the quadruple helix at regional level (public administration, academia and research, enterprises, citizens).

InnoXenia PLUS is funded in the framework of Interreg ADRION programme. Greek partners include the Region of Western Greece as lead partner and the Industrial Systems Institute of the ATHENA Research Center.

In this context the Industrial Systems Institute and the Region of Western Greece have organized an infoday in Kalavryta on May 11, 2022 entitled “Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Tourism through the activities of InnoXenia PLUS”.

The event was opened by the Deputy Government of Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation of the Region of Western Greece Mr Fokion Zaimis who emphasized on the importance of tourism for regional development. A short intervention by Ms Sofia Zacharaki, Deputy Minister of Tourism, emphasized on the need of innovation in the tourist sector. Mr Athanasios Papadopoulos, Mayor of Kalavryta, greeted the event and presented the perspectives and vision for tourism in the Municipality. Prof. Chrysostomos Stylios, Director of the Industrial Systems Institute, greeted the event and presented the opportunities presented by innovation and technological evolutions for the tourism industry.

InnoXenia Plus Project Manager Mr Konstantinos Tzamaloukas of the Region of Western Greece made a presentation of the project and its overall objectives as well as liaison to the former InnoXenia project.

Mr Athanasios Kalogeras, Research Director of the Industrial Systems Institute made a presentation of the challenges faced by tourism in the post-pandemic era, as well as on the outcomes of InnoXenia projects and more specifically the relevant Strategic Agenda for Innovation in Tourism and Tourism Innovation Observatory.

Short interventions were made by Mr Georgios Telonis, President of Tourism Agencies of Western Greece, and Mr Alexis Agrios, Director of the Ski Center of Kalavryta.
