CV in Brief
Petros Karvelis received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 2012 from the University of Ioannina, focusing on multichannel image processing using machine learning methods. Since April 2019, he has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Ioannina in Greece. He also holds an M.Sc. in Informatics (2004) and a B.Sc. in Computer Science (2001) from the same institution. During his postgraduate studies, he was awarded a scholarship by the Foundation for Research and Technology, and in 2013 he received a Marie Curie scholarship from the European Union. Petros Karvelis has published over 100 scientific works, including journal articles and conference papers, with a total citation count exceeding 1,600 according to Google Scholar (accessed June 2025). His research interests encompass image and signal processing, machine learning and time-series symbolic representation. He has participated as a researcher in more than 16 European and national research projects, including recent work on multimodal computer vision for wildlife surveillance using drones. In 2015, he served as Instructor of Medical Imaging at the University of Nebraska for one semester, contributing to the development of medical imaging curricula. Dr Karvelis regularly supervises Ph.D. candidates and collaborates with the Knowledge and Intelligent Computing Laboratory at University of Ioannina.
