Dr. Sotiris Kotsiantis is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, University of Patras, specializing in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, and Knowledge Mining. He holds a Ph.D. (2005), an MSc in Computational Mathematics and Informatics (2001), and a Mathematics degree (1999), all from the University of Patras. With over 20 years of teaching experience, he has offered undergraduate and postgraduate courses in data science, numerical analysis, Python programming, databases, neural networks, and machine learning, primarily at the University of Patras, the Hellenic Open University, and previously at the University of Peloponnese and TEI of Patras. His research focuses on ensemble methods, active and semi-supervised learning, and explainable AI, applied in domains such as education, finance, energy, urban resilience, and smart cities. He has participated in some national and European research projects, including ERASMUS+ initiatives such ESSA and GoodDEEDS. Dr. Kotsiantis is a highly cited researcher with an h-index of 46 and over 170 scientific publications in top international journals such as Artificial Intelligence Review, Information Sciences, Knowledge-Based Systems, Neural Computing and Applications, IEEE Access. His recent work explores financial sentiment forecasting using deep learning, explainable AI in decision systems, and time series forecasting for energy and environmental data. He has also contributed extensively to Springer’s conference proceedings and edited volumes, reflecting a deep engagement with both theoretical advances and applied machine learning challenges.
