PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering, 2004, Engineering Degree in Computer Engineering & Informatics, 1994, University of Patras, Greece.
He has more than 25 years of experience in applied research, in the areas of real-time distributed embedded systems, industrial networks, wireless sensor networks and their applications in industrial & building automation, telecommunications, transportation, energy, and environmental, agricultural, and seismological/geophysical sectors.
He has been an Assistant Professor at the Western Greece University of Applied Sciences, teaching industrial informatics, information systems and computer networks. He is the author or co-author of more than 60 scientific publications in international journals, conferences and books, and of more than 110 publicly available or confidential technical reports.
He has participated in more than 30 European and national research and development projects, either as ESR, ER or project manager/PI, and he was the leader and main designer and contributor for the development of numerous industrial prototype systems, including WAN gateways, real-time industrial wired-wireless bridges, computer vision systems for defects detection, visualization and classification in the textile industry, distributed, fieldbus based, automation systems and industrial grade, web based HMI/SCADA systems for the process industry, for irrigation works and for smart home / smart building environments, wireless multimedia control frameworks, RFID security gates in marine transportations, WSN & IoT nodes, gateways and systems for smart city, smart manufacturing and seismological/geophysical applications, as well as energy consumption models at various system levels, from an electronic system up to a complex modern tertiary sector building.
He has served in the past as Guest Editor in MDPI Electronics Journal, Special Issue in "Real-Time Embedded Systems", as a reviewer in IEEE, MDPI and other journals and magazines, and as PC/TPC or panel member in many IEEE and other conferences and workshops. He has also served as an elected member of the board of ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics, 2013-2015 and 2015-2017), as a member of the first Steering Committee of eTEE and a member of the first Steering Committee of Athena RC Researchers Association.
He is currently a member of the board of ERCIM (Treasurer, 2017-2019), an Editorial Board member in Sensors Journal, section Sensor Networks, Guest Editor in Sensors Journal, Special Issue in "Real-Time Sensor Networks and Systems for the Industrial IoT", and a member of the Scientific Board of ISI.
He is also a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and a Senior Member of IEEE.
