CV in Brief
Marios Fournaris (Piraeus, 1981) is a visual artist and holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His doctoral dissertation, Arte Povera: The Genesis, the Context, and the Approach to the Art of a New Humanism, analyzes the aesthetic strategies and socio-political practices of the historical movement of Arte Povera in relation to the political content of the notion of a New Humanism. The analysis extends from the late 1960s to the contemporary rearticulation of the political meaning of the term within the framework of current economic and political institutions managing artistic practice. He holds a degree in Painting and Sculpture with a specialization in new media from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (B.F.A. 2010). He completed his postgraduate studies with distinction in the field of new media and contemporary methods of artistic practice in public space at the University of Dundee (M.F.A., 2012). He has been awarded major scholarships, including those from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC, UK). His artworks have been presented internationally at significant venues such as: Photo Basel International Art Fair, Basel 2025; ECC Biennale PERSONAL STRUCTURES 2022 (59th Venice Biennale – Collateral Event); University of the Arts Stockholm, 2022; Cittadellarte / Fondazione Pistoletto, 2019; and MOMus – Experimental Center for the Arts, Thessaloniki, 2018. He has also curated and participated in interdisciplinary artistic projects and educational academic courses commissioned by institutions such as University of West Attica, Athens 2025; Hrvatski dom Split - Koncertna dvorana Ive Tijardovića, Split, Croatia, 2025; University of California Berkeley Summer Abroad Program: Art Making, Community and Environment, 2024; ELEVSIS 2023 – European Capital of Culture; and Aristotle University of Thesalloniki, School of Fine Arts, Department of Visual and Aplied Arts, 2020-2021. Since March 2023, he has been a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors, while since 2019 he has been an active member of the SHARING PERAMA art platform. His artistic production is extensive, including eight solo exhibitions and numerous participations in group shows, with works held in public and private collections worldwide.
