CV in Brief
Varvara Sygouni is a Chemical Engineer with an M.Sc. in Process Simulation, Optimization, and Control (2005) and a Ph.D. (2007) from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras. She has worked as a researcher on national, EU, and industry-funded projects at IFP Energies Nouvelles (France); the Laboratory of Environmental Technology (Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras); and the Laboratories of Analytical & Inorganic Chemistry and Transport Phenomena & Physicochemical Hydrodynamics (Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras – FORTH/ICE-HT). She has served as Principal Investigator on a three-year project funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation and as technical and communication manager in several EU-funded projects.
She has worked as a scientific associate on Horizon projects at the Department of Environment, Climate Resilience, and Spatial Planning of the Region of Western Greece. She has also served for more than six years as adjunct teaching staff at the University of Patras, the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, and the Hellenic Open University. She has supervised over 20 diploma theses, one Ph.D. dissertation, and 20 M.Sc. theses.
Her research focuses on process engineering, multiphase fluid systems, and physicochemical phenomena, from laboratory to pilot scale. More specifically, she specializes in multiphase flow in porous media, colloids and suspensions, extractions, separations, and membrane-based treatments, with applications in wastewater valorisation, high-value compound recovery, and nanoparticle transport. Her research outputs include 33 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than 50 conference contributions.
