CV in Brief

Alaa AlZailaa is a researcher in AI-driven wireless communications with strong expertise in 5G and B5G Radio Access Network optimization, currently completing a PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. His doctoral work develops analytical and empirical frameworks to evaluate the cost, complexity, and efficiency of neural network models for next-generation RAN automation, integrating system modeling, multi-objective analysis, and real testbed validation. He holds a Master's degree in Computer and Telematics Engineering from the University of Aveiro and a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Engineering from Damascus University. His research spans AI-based resource management, federated learning for IoT networks, battery-aware device selection, intelligent scheduling, and energy-efficient network design. He has contributed to major national and European projects, including the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), NGN-ET (Next-Generation Network Architectures and Enabling Technologies), SAFE-HOME (Security-Aware Fog-based Efficient Home Monitoring for Elders), and NICE-HOME (Mobile Systems for Intelligent Home Monitoring). Alaa has published in leading venues such as IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics (IEEE TCE), IEEE Access, the Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks (JSAN), and IEEE conferences, including GLOBECOM, ICC, WF-IoT, and ICCT-Europe. He also serves as a reviewer for high-impact Q1 journals, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence. His technical skills include Python, Java, TensorFlow, NS-3, OpenStack, SDN, and virtualization. Before his research career, he worked in telecom and IT integration roles, gaining hands-on experience in network engineering, CRM systems, Oracle database administration, and service integration for large-scale deployments
