CV in Brief

Konstantinos Gkarakis has significant experience in the development of RES projects (wind farms, photovoltaic plants, small hydroelectric projects, geothermal) in all stages of the licensing process and technical development. His career in the field began in 2000. Having the opportunity to work in large energy groups and gradually acquiring positions of responsibility, he was given the opportunity to develop from scratch dozens of RES projects (wind, photovoltaic), which are still operating throughout the territory. At the same time, he was involved in RES projects in Cyprus and Spain. He also has a rich written work with over 95 scientific publications in conferences and scientific journals, while since 2016 he has been a visiting Professor in the postgraduate program of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of West Attica - Heriot-Watt University (MSc in Energy Systems) as well as a reviewer in the scientific journal Renewable Energy Journal from which he has received honors. He has participation at Panteion University in the postgraduate program "Environmental Governance and Sustainable Development" of the Department of International, European and Regional Studies and has participated in the Department's seminars on energy and environment issues as a lecturer. He teaces as a Professor at the Mediterranean College (Athens) the course Power Conversion: Electricity in the postgraduate study program of the University of Derby, United Kingdom. Since February 2024 he teached the Solar Energy course. Permanent columnist in Manufacturing magazine (formerly Plant), while he has published articles in magazine Electrician, Anemologia, Technological Chronicles, Offshore magazine, Modern Technical Review and on the websites: www.energypress.gr, www.energy-industry.gr, www.kataskevesktirion.gr, www.energia.gr Also lecturer in seminars on renewable energy sources and rational use/saving of energy. Cooperation with TUV Austria Hellas from October 2017 until today in matters of technical and environmental assessment of wind farms before their construction and in operation. An important moment in his career are the positions in operation of wind and PV plants that he has started from the beginning and have been operating efficiently for many years (e.g. wind farms in Kos, Panachaiko, Tripoli, Kithairona etc. but also PV parks in Rhodope). Today, his company develops in Greece for various clients, RES projects, with a total capacity of approximately 1.7 GW, both in the mainland and in the island country but also energy storage systems of more than 1 GW.
