Dr. Sigalas obtained his PhD in Physics from the University of Crete, Greece. He was a researcher at Ames Lab, Iowa State University, Iowa, USA. Subsequently he moved to industry, first as permanent staff at Agilent Technologies, Palo Alto, CA, USA. Then, he was a consultant to Hewlett-Packard and Lumileds\Philips, Palo Alto, CA, USA. He is currently Professor at the Department of Materials Science, University of Patras. He has more than 170 publications that have attracted more than 17000 citations (H-index: 55); he also holds 33 issued US patents. His research interests are: Numerical studies of photonic materials; Optical interconnects (waveguides, filters, modulators, sources, isolators); Light emitted diodes; Sensors. Solar cells; Photonic crystals; Elastic and acoustic wave propagation in inhomogeneous materials; Phononic crystals; Numerical studies of the electronic properties of materials.
