Vassilios S. Verykios is Vice Rector of Student Welfare and Professor of Data Management at the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University (HOU). He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Purdue University, USA. He has served as Assistant Professor at Drexel University (1999–2002) and the University of Thessaly (2005–2010), and since 2016 he has been a Full Professor at HOU, where he also founded and directs the Research Laboratory of Big Data Analytics and Anonymization. He is recognized among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Elsevier and listed among the leading Greek computer scientists by Research.com. His research spans Data Science, Machine Learning, Data Privacy and Security, Data Quality, Large Language Models, Explainability and Interpretability, with more than 300 publications and over 12,000 citations (Google Scholar). He has coordinated and participated in numerous research projects, serves on the editorial boards and program committees of major international journals and conferences, and contributes extensively to postgraduate education, including the DAMA – Data Science and Machine Learning program. He also serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Computer Technology Institute and Publications “Diophantus.”
