Voula C. Georgopoulos is a Professor of Information Technology Applications in Speech Therapy in the Department of Speech and Language Therapy at the School of Health Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Patras (formerly TEI Patras), where she has served since 1998. She holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece (1984), an S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (1987), and an Engineer’s Degree (1988) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University in 1992. Prior to her academic appointment in Greece, Dr. Georgopoulos worked for six years as a Member of the Technical Staff at the MITRE Corporation, a federally funded research and development center based in Bedford, Massachusetts. She also held a faculty position for three years as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Dr. Georgopoulos has authored more than 90 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and edited volumes, as well as 10 technical reports. Her research focuses on intelligent decision support systems and the application of digital technologies to speech and language therapy and rehabilitation. She has led or participated in national and international research projects in these areas.
